My Story
I was born and raised in a tiny Swiss-French mountain village in Switzerland. Growing up in a house built in 1657 I was surrounded by the simple pleasures in life; the familiar scent of baked bread, the charm of hand-crafted toys, untouched fields of wildflowers blowing in the mountain breeze, fresh and pristine white snow. My inspiration for working with pianos came when one day, I arrived home early from school and our piano technician was there working. He had the piano opened and I could see inside. I was amazed to see that the simple elements of wood, metal, felt and leather combined to create such sophisticated sound and touch.
I obtained a degree in Piano Technology from Ecole Professionelle de la Societe Industrielle et Commerciale in Lausanne which involved an intense, hands-on apprenticeship including all areas of rebuilding and restoring pianos along with all aspects of post production work such as voicings, regulations and concert tunings. For the past 35 years, I have been mastering my skills by working with many professional pianists, vocalists, conductors, composers, teachers and students. I've prepared concert grands for Yale University, Bucknell University, Manhattan School of Music, Fordham University, The Neighborhood Music School and Choate Rosemary Hall. I've also designed and engineered the piano technical workshop for Manhattan School of Music.
I specialize in custom action and voicing work and in so doing, I rediscover the treasure trove of faded images that each piano brings. I make it easier for the piano and the pianist to unite, to sing of forgotten lessons and to recapture simple pleasures along with the memories of when there was time to exist and time to spare.
